Company's Universal Docking Station is First USB-Based
Docking Station to Offer True Video Output, Stereo
Audio Out, Always On Features
Toronto, ON, June 6, 2005 -- Targus Inc., maker of the world’s best-selling notebook cases and accessories, added to its extensive line of computer accessories launching the Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video for notebooks or Tablet PCs.
Targus’ latest mobile computing docking innovation is the first USB-based docking station with true video output capabilities, stereo audio out, and two “always on” USB ports. These “always on” ports allow users to power peripheral devices such as phones and MP3 players while the laptop is in standby or shut-down mode.
“This Universal Docking Station with Video is a unique product and is answering a real need in the corporate market for a universal solution with true video output capabilities,” said Lisa MacDonald-Steward, Marketing Manager for Targus Canada. “Unlike competitive offerings, the Targus Universal Docking Station with Video eliminates the need for an additional VGA cable. Now, one single USB cable is all that is needed to connect any notebook to peripherals.”
Targus Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video Highlights:
Legacy Free docking station enables any Hi-Speed USB 2.0 supported notebook to connect
Video Pass-Through allows users to connect to a CRT monitor or LCD screen directly and choose from three viewing modes
One-Touch connectivity provides immediate access to up to nine different devices
Always-On feature enables two of the four ports to receive power when the notebook is turned off or on standby
Two additional USB ports provide extra power for twice as much power as traditional ports
Small form-factor increases mobility
Legacy Free
The Universal Docking Station with Video is an affordable alternative to traditional OEM docking stations and port replicators and can be used with any Hi-Speed USB 2.0-supported laptop computer running Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP Professional.
As users purchase new and different notebooks relying on different platforms, they can still use the Targus Universal Docking Station with Video without having to purchase a new docking station. Targus’ Universal Docking Station with Video also makes docking notebooks easy for users of multiple models in the same home, office or on the road, requiring only a single USB cord connection.
Video Pass-Through
The true video output capability of Targus’ Universal Docking Station with Video allows users to connect a CRT monitor or LCD screen directly to the docking station without the hassle of an additional cable connection.
Once connected to a monitor, Targus’ docking station offers the choice of three viewing modes:
Primary Video Mode, which uses an external monitor or LCD as the primary display
Extended Video Mode, which allows a notebook screen and external monitor to be used for combined viewing or to create a single, larger viewing area
Mirror Video Mode, which replicates the notebook screen onto an external monitor or LCD
One Touch
One-Touch connectivity provides immediate access to up to nine different devices using a single USB cable. The Universal Docking Station with Video includes four Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ports, a video monitor port, 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, serial port, stereo audio out jack and microphone audio in jack.
Always On
A single switch at the back of the Targus Universal Docking Station allows two of the four USB 2.0 ports to continue receiving AC power even when the notebook is turned off or in sleep mode. This feature is ideal for continuously charging devices such as wireless mice, phones, PDAs, or MP3 players.
Plug and Play
Powered by an AC adapter, the Universal Docking Station with Video is equipped with plug and play connectivity, enabling it to automatically recognize new USB devices when plugged in without rebooting.
Extra Power Means More Free USB Ports
The additional two USB ports also provide twice as much power as traditional ports, allowing them to support any product that draws its power through a USB “Y” or “Upstream” cable with only one USB port. Instead of consuming two USB ports for one device, as is unavoidable with most y-cable connections, the user gains back the extra port, thus consuming only one for the device’s operation.
Targus’ four USB ports are also spaced more widely than most USB hubs, making them easier to use with large or awkwardly-shaped USB adapters.
Small Form Factor
The Universal Docking Station with Video Weighs only 13 ounces and measures 10.6 inches by 3 inches by 1.2 inches. Its unique wedge design also offers a stable slip-resistant platform, minimizing its footprint on the desktop, and has a natural tilt that helps to increase comfort when typing and provide improved airflow to better cool notebooks.
Targus’ Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video is available for $199.99 via Targus Canada’s website (http://www.targus.com/ca) and at leading national retailers including Staples.
